Bob Marly And Rasta

Check this video out about the Rastafarian people:

The video showed a variety of symbols for the Rastafarian religion.  I noticed the colors red yellow green and black within all of the dress and housing of the people.  The color black was embraced as a good color rather than the evil that it normally stands for.  The people wore the letter R around their neck to symbolize the right.  There were also many drawings of the symbol R/X, which means right over wrong.  They wore red turbans to preserve the dreadlocks that help the people not forget their African roots.  The Rastafarian people have some very unique rituals.  They rise at 3 in the morning to read psalms and worship.  They also carry out Shabbat, which is taken from the Jewish religion and is a day of rest from worship.  There was also a quick clip of a man puffing on a Doobie, which is also a very strong symbol in the Rastafarian religion.

My view of the Rastafarian religion has not changed much since seeing this video.  In comparing my view as seen through Bob Marley.  The Rasta colors, dreads, right over wrong and weed are all associated with this religion.  However, I did not know how dedicated the people were to their religion.  The turbans and the rituals make the religion more real to me.  I had a view of a laid back group of people but they actually take it very seriously.
