Scriptures are a very important part of religion. One such scripture is known as the Book of Psalms. These verses have been translated from the original Hebrew many times, and it reflects on the time period. The translations of a certain time period and place give the reader messages that relate to the events that are occurring in the present. Let us take a look at a translation of Psalm II.
This translation related to the time of the explorers and early America. There is mention of heathens, tribes and pottery. It seems that this is an order for a missionary to try and save the native people. The first lines reflect the views of the natives that the early settlers have. They are vain and heathens. The second lines tell how the natives are conspiring against God. The third lines are an order to put a stop to this “madness.” The fouth and fifth lines are showing that God will not accept the natives into heaven. The sixth and seventh lines show that the early settlers are safe because of their beliefs. The rest of the psalm tells the saved settlers to go and break the natives of their religion and save them so that they may reside in heaven when they die.
I find this very disturbing. These can be interpreted in many ways that will have the most benefit for what people think is right at the time. It makes me question modern scriptures, for I feel like most of them are Propaganda.
